Los Cabos Mexican Foods is a member of the American Commodity Distribution Association. We participate in the donated foods program, which comprises 15 to 20 percent of all food served on school lunch plates. The program is run through the USDA, Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). The program has two major goals, to help farmers meet their economic needs and serve the nutritional needs of students. Districts are assigned donated food entitlement dollars every year based Average Daily Participation (ADP) during the prior school year. Districts then in turn use their Entitlement dollars to purchase donated foods for the National School Lunch Program.
Nationally, farm surpluses of beans, grains, beef, poultry, cheese, all manner of fruits (fresh, frozen and canned), vegetables, and staples like peanut butter, cooking oils and even pasta sauce are all included in the program. Processed meats such as chicken fajita strips and turkey taco fillings are also included on the national donated foods master material list. Local districts select from shorter lists of donated foods available at the state level, based on preference surveys of local school food service directors.
Los Cabos is a donated foods processor of cheese. The donated foods are further processed into food products, such as:
